As I gain experience in the classroom, I recognize how important parent-teacher communication is for student success. Parent-teacher communication is useful to both parents and teachers. Parents are the ones who know their children best and thus are able to provide relevant information on the child that may help the teacher better understand his or her needs. As well, teachers also provide important information to parents on their child's improvements and needs.
Agenda
Students' agenda is a great tool teachers and parents can use to communicate together. In my classroom, students are to have their agendas opened to the day's date first thing every morning. As such, I am able to walk around and see if I received any message from a parent. As well, I remind students at the end of the day to show their agenda to their parents to ensure they receive any message or sheet I send home. |
Emails
Email is also an efficient tool teachers and parents can use to communicate. Sometimes, parents or teachers have certain concerns that they believe need to be handled more officially than through a brief agenda message. As such, emails is a fast and easy way parents and teachers can get in contact. Furthermore, in the event where a sever incidents happened at school, teachers can use emails to inform the parents and forward it to the school principal or childcare worker so they all have a copy of the documented incident. |
Face-to-Face Communication
I believe it is fundamental for teachers and parents to communicate face-to-face. Therefore, as a teacher, I believe it is important to walk students outside after school in order to see and talk to parents even if it is for a minute or two.
