If the world would rethink, if the people would take A step further into what My content could make If the children were told And elders would tell Perhaps then and just then There’d be use of the pen If the head was a place That was home to a mind Then the words that are read Would propel you to find That the world all around That the life that you live Can be seen through letters That have meaning to give If all this is true And words really are A way in which man Can look at a star And gaze at the sky And glance at the sea And understand pie Yes, all this is true Yes, words really can Spell out the knowledge That is waiting for man The truth is now clear For if reading is knowledge Than the best way to steer Your way through this life Is to read and to read For only through following The maps can one hope To find Himself discovering A treasure one of its kind But what can a ship Or where can a crew achieve or arrive or even just do without a good captain to lead them right through the mighty strong storms and the peaceful calm nights that cause some to give up and flee from the fights? My letters tell knowledge My reading tell discovery But you tell the children What they can all be I, and all those who stand At the front of the class With a book in hand Are facilitators of learning Of growth and of eventual Teaching, a sense of renewal.
